It’s not too late to enroll your child into Green Inspiration Academy (GIA) for Kindergarten. We are a free public school for students K-8, serving the Greater Cleveland area, and we understand families may have questions about when and why they should enroll their children into kindergarten. Here are our answers to FAQ’s:
Why Should I Enroll My Child Into Kindergarten?
- It’s Ohio state law to enroll your child in Kindergarten. They must have graduated from Kindergarten before they attend first grade.
- Kindergarten is the place where students learn all of the basics they need before entering grade school. See “What Will My Child Learn in Kindergarten?” below.
- School is a safe, healthy environment for your child to develop. At GIA, we consider our school a home away from home.
What Will My Child Learn in Kindergarten?
Kindergarten is where students learn the basics, usually taught with songs, games, and other interesting engagement strategies. These basics include social emotional learning, physical play and group dynamics, language skills, and creativity in addition to the core academic subjects (Reading, Writing, Arithmetic…). By the end of Kindergarten, the student should feel more capable to join first grade the following year.
Is My Child Old Enough For Kindergarten?
According to Ohio state law, a child must attend school by the age of 6. Typically families enroll their children into Kindergarten when the student will be 5-years-old by August 1st of that school year. If you believe your child should be enrolled into Kindergarten at the age of 4, please contact our Admissions Officer and they will help you.
Is It Too Late To Enroll My Child In Kindergarten?
It is not too late to enroll your child into Kindergarten if they are between the ages of 4 and 6. You have school choice on your side so you can enroll your student in the school that best fits your child’s needs. If you wish to switch from one Kindergarten to GIA’s Kindergarten, we are happy to welcome your student at any time of the school year, as long as we have capacity. We are giving away school supplies to new students enrolling for Fall 2022, so we are encouraging families to enroll their students as early as possible while we still have space.
